As of February 2016, it has proven to be unsuccessful.ĭespite the film's overwhelmingly negative reception, Lázaro Ramos stated on a 2015 interview that he "doesn't regret taking part in it" and that thanks to the salary he received, he was able to quit his day job as a pathology laboratory technician and pay for acting lessons. In December 2015, "fans" of the film started a humorous petition for it to be streamed by Netflix. Commenting about it, he wrote that "it was the worst one among the other 24". īrazilian writer, blogger and film critic Renzo Mora included Cinderela Baiana in his 2009 book 25 Filmes que Podem Arruinar a Sua Vida! (English: 25 Films That Might Ruin Your Life!). She also referred to the movie as being " cringeworthy". The list's author, Pollyane Lima e Silva, stated: "he idea of giving an axé dancer (it doesn't matter how 'good' people think she is) a biopic was plain wrong since its inception". On March 15, 2010, Brazilian magazine Veja made a list of the top 10 worst Brazilian films of all time, and Cinderela Baiana was featured in first place. According to researcher Arthur Autran, the film sold a little over 50,000 VHS copies prior to its recall. The film has acquired a small cult following, with excerpts of it being widely used as a source for YouTube Poops in Brazil. However, it has found its way to survive via file-sharing websites, being uploaded in its entirety to YouTube on January 30, 2013. Carla Perez announced in 2008 that she had disowned the film, saying that she "regretted it as an actress", and by her request it was ultimately withdrawn from circulation a couple of years after its release thus being, original physical copies of the film are extremely rare and very difficult to obtain. It holds a score of 2.2 out of 10 at the Internet Movie Database and of 2 out of 5 at Filmow, based on 1,146 votes (as of March 2018). The film was reviled by critics and the public alike, who criticized Carla Perez's lackluster and amateurish performance, the clichéd plot, several narrative inconsistencies and Perry Salles' ridiculously over-the-top acting as Pierre. ( January 2018)įilming began in June 1998 in the cities of Salvador and Milagres, Bahia. Helped by her two vagabond friends, Bucha ( Lucci Ferreira) and Chico ( Lázaro Ramos), and by her boyfriend, Alexandre Pires (portrayed by himself), she garners the strength to fight Pierre back and live freely as she wishes. Carla, having an innate talent for dancing, soon is spotted by eccentric talent manager Pierre ( Perry Salles) and his personal assistant Beto (Val Perré) she is initially enthusiastic about her newly acquired fame, but soon discovers Pierre is an unscrupulous man that is only interested into the profits of exploiting her. After her mother dies, Carla and her father decide to move to Salvador in order to achieve better life conditions. Released in theaters on September 4, 1998, Cinderela Baiana was a critical and commercial failure, and to this day it is considered to be one of the worst films ever made by the Brazilian film industry.Ĭarla Perez (portrayed by Carla Fabianny as a child and by herself as an adult) lives with her father Raimundo (Armindo Bião) and unnamed tuberculous mother (Juliana Calil) in a small, poor shack located somewhere in the middle of the sertão of Bahia. The film is noted for being the debuts of Perez, then-unknown actors Lázaro Ramos and Lucci Ferreira, and musician Alexandre Pires (frontman of samba group Só Pra Contrariar and Carla Perez's then-boyfriend) on a feature film, and also counts with cameos by singers Netinho and Cátia Guimma, portraying themselves. It is a heavily fictionalized biography of dancer Carla Perez, famous for being a former member of axé group É o Tchan!. Cinderela Baiana ( Portuguese for Bahian Cinderella) is a 1998 Brazilian semi-fictionalized biographical romantic comedy film directed by Conrado Sanchez (who also wrote the screenplay, even though he was uncredited for it) and produced by Antônio Polo Galante (his last credited work prior to his retirement in the same year). ![]() ![]() Similarly, I grew up watching everything Mel Brooks and his comedic style has definitely informed my career in the genre. Comedy is subjective, so having that relatability really helps me craft the story and punctuate the comedy in the edit bay. They were a household staple for us, and since my family was first-generation Mexican-American on my dad’s side, it was very relatable to see other minority blue-collar families and their struggles told through comedy. The most exciting thing for me about working on The Upshaws was that I grew up watching multi-camera sitcoms. We spent many months as a team carefully structuring episodes, trying to position historical subjects, diversity, and types of sketches with longer or shorter sketches. This created a unique challenge to build episodes that felt well-balanced. Also, being that History of the World is sketch comedy, there is a large variety of sketches in each episode about moments in history ranging from The Russian Revolution to Jesus, Sigmund Freud, and Kublai Khan. Oftentimes, we were re-writing jokes in the edit bay which did a lot to elevate the comedy. This mindset also really paved the way for a lot of creative freedom. 'History of the Wold, Part II' Credit: Hulu However, on History of the World, the actors in the sketches often would deliver a plethora of improv gold, and finding ways to work these moments into the sketches to layer jokes, was not only valued but encouraged. On The Upshaws, we almost always stuck to the script and the pace was much slower. Additionally, I had to recalibrate my thinking to the editorial style of single-camera sketch comedy. We would screen cuts together as an editorial team and debate how to land a joke better, or which scenes would play best in an episode together. The culture of History of the World was extremely collaborative. Of course, I jumped at the chance!Ĭoming from The Upshaws, where it was generally just me in the edit bay combined with the multi-camera editorial style, was an adjustment as History was quite the opposite. Just as we were wrapping up our season, Wanda asked if I’d be interested in cutting the Mel Brooks sketch comedy series. My experience editing The Upshaws led me to my next show, History of the World, Part II. History of the World Part 2 | Trailer | Hulu youtu.be I enjoyed the challenge of landing the jokes with the proper takes and reactions while artfully weaving in the laughter. The editorial style of The Upshaws is a hybrid of the two: we have the element of the studio audience, however, our showrunners prefer that the edits are on the tighter side, which is a different take on this format. Single Camera comedy, however, is usually edited in a much tighter manner, with jokes layered on top of each other. Multi-camera sitcoms are shot on a soundstage with a studio audience and because they have a laugh track, the editorial style is much like stand-up comedy in the sense that the show is cut fat with room for the laughter to play out and time for the characters to take the laughter in. The Upshaws: Part 3 | Official Trailer | Netflix youtu.beĬoming from a background of editing stand-up comedy made my transition to cutting The Upshaws a fluid one. This came with a lot of pressure and growth but also led to my first three Primetime Emmy nominations in 2023: two for The Upshaws and one for History of the World Part II. It was my first multi-camera sitcom and I was the only editor on the second season of a hit show (except Episode 5, where I share a credit with the talented Russell Griffin). This was a pivotal moment in my career for multiple reasons. Knightley’s Sugar Plum Fairy is far and away one of the best and most fun parts of Four Realms. Which means that Marie was Queen of them all, which makes sense because as we learn she is the one who discovered them. So counting Marie, that’s five rulers but only four realms. There’s a fourth reagent, Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), leader of the land of Amusements. Of course, you’d be wrong because Four Realms doesn’t trifle with such silly things such as math and logic. Now for those of your counting along you might notice that’s three, plus Clara’s mother makes four. We have the Sugar Plum Fairy (Keira Knightley) ruler of the land of Sweets, Hawthorne (Eugenio Derbez) ruler of the land of the Flowers, and Shiver (Richard E. Clara does build an elaborate Rube Goldberg device to catch a mouse and unlike the game, it works. The object of the game was to construct an elaborate Rube Goldberg device that ultimately does nothing but sow dissent and acrimony among all who play it. By “mousetrap” I am of course referring to the classic 1980’s Milton Bradley game. Let’s start from the beginning: Young Clara is teaching her little brother Fritz (Tom Sweet) how to build a mousetrap. Sprinkle in treachery, evil clowns, and a smidge of ballet and it’s the wonderful classic Holiday tale we all know and love. To top it all of there’s a machine that brings toys to life. She stumbles into the middle of a cold war between the realms and inadvertently heats it up. Clara finds out she is a Princess, which means her recently deceased mother Marie (Anna Madeley) was a Queen. Before you ask her name is pronounced, “Star-bomb.” Admittedly a wonderfully badass name that is wasted in Ashleigh Powell’s script. A lot happens in Four Realms but very little of it matters much less makes any sense.įour Realms is the story of a young girl Clara Stahlbaum (Mackenzie Foy) and the adventures she has one night at a Christmas party held by her Godfather Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman). A more accurate term would be “a bastardization” of the classic short story and ballet. Hoffman’s The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and Marius Petipa’s The Nutcracker, would be misleading. To call The Nutcracker and the Four Realms an adaptation, or even a retelling of E.T.A. ![]() In most graphite (α-graphite), the layers of atoms are arranged in an ABABAB. Most graphite is α-graphite and it possesses a layer structure in which each carbon is directly bound to three other carbon atoms at a distance of 141.5 pm. Amorphous forms of carbon such as soot and lampblack are materials consisting of very small particles of graphite. Whereas diamond and graphite are infinite lattices, fullerenes such as buckminsterfullerene, C 60, is a discrete molecular species. Other forms of carbon include the fullerenes. Diamond is a second form of carbon but is much less common. This is also the thermodynamically most stable form. The most common form of pure carbon is α-graphite. Pure carbon is available in a number of different forms (allotropes). This form of carbon is the subject of great interest in research laboratories today. More recently, another form of carbon, buckminsterfullerene, C 60, was discovered. Diamonds are also recovered from the ocean floor off the Cape of Good Hope. Natural diamonds are found in ancient volcanic "pipes" such as found in South Africa. Carbon, as microscopic diamonds, is found in some meteorites. It is found in abundance in the sun, stars, comets, and atmospheres of most planets. Therefore, there are various non-equivalent definitions of atomic radius.Carbon is a Group 14 element and is distributed very widely in nature. However, this assumes the atom to exhibit a spherical shape, which is only obeyed for atoms in vacuum or free space. The atomic radius of a chemical element is a measure of the distance out to which the electron cloud extends from the nucleus. It must be noted, atoms lack a well-defined outer boundary. The atomic radius of Oxygen atom is 66pm (covalent radius). Note that, each element may contain more isotopes, therefore this resulting atomic mass is calculated from naturally-occuring isotopes and their abundance. The atomic mass is carried by the atomic nucleus, which occupies only about 10 -12 of the total volume of the atom or less, but it contains all the positive charge and at least 99.95% of the total mass of the atom. The atomic mass or relative isotopic mass refers to the mass of a single particle, and therefore is tied to a certain specific isotope of an element. Mass numbers of typical isotopes of Oxygen are 16 17 18. Isotopes are nuclides that have the same atomic number and are therefore the same element, but differ in the number of neutrons. The difference between the neutron number and the atomic number is known as the neutron excess: D = N – Z = A – 2Z.įor stable elements, there is usually a variety of stable isotopes. Neutron number plus atomic number equals atomic mass number: N+Z=A. The total number of neutrons in the nucleus of an atom is called the neutron number of the atom and is given the symbol N. Total number of protons in the nucleus is called the atomic number of the atom and is given the symbol Z. Now the programmer can experiment and make changes, and once the work is done, they merge the changes of the feature branch into the original master branch. So, they create a new branch from the master branch, which contains a copy of the master branch’s code.
